Athlete Self-Talk Cue Builder

A useful cue does not have to sound positive. It needs to be believable and point toward something you can do. You do not need to argue with every thought.

Your answers stay in this page. They are not saved or sent. Copy or print before leaving if you want to keep them.

An example to adapt

Instead of “I must not miss again”, try “Eyes on the target” if that fits your task. Test it during a familiar drill. If it adds pressure or feels artificial, make it simpler.

I keep replaying a mistake

That play is over. Find my next job. Reset your position and locate the next task.

I feel I must be perfect

I can take one useful action without being perfect. Choose a playable target rather than a perfect outcome.

I doubt my preparation

Use the part I have practised. Start there. Name one rehearsed action and begin it.

I keep comparing myself with others

Their performance is theirs. My next action is mine. Bring attention back to your own position or pace.

Say the cue once, then do the action. After practice, keep, shorten or replace the words based on your experience.
